Welcome to LACA-ABCr 2025!

We are delighted to invite you to the VII Latin American Crystallographic Association (LACA) Meeting and the XXVII Brazilian Crystallographic Association (ABCr) Meeting, taking place in Fortaleza, Brazil, from October 14–17, 2025. This joint event brings together researchers, students, and professionals from Latin America and around the world to explore the latest advances in crystallography and structural sciences.

Our diverse scientific program includes plenary lectures, keynote talks, thematic microsymposia, and poster sessions covering topics such as structural biology, materials science, pharmaceuticals, quantum crystallography, synchrotron and neutron techniques, and more. A highlight of the event is the LACA-ABCr School from October 13–14, 2025, a pre-meeting initiative designed to provide young scientists with hands-on training and theoretical insights into essential crystallographic methods, fostering the development of the next generation of crystallographers in Latin America.

Set in the vibrant coastal city of Fortaleza—with its stunning beaches, rich culture, and warm hospitality—this meeting offers the perfect backdrop for scientific exchange, networking, and collaboration.

Join us for an inspiring week of science, innovation, and collaboration in one of Brazil’s most beautiful destinations!

We look forward to welcoming you to LACA-ABCr 2025!

I Latin American Powder Diffraction Conference (LAPDiC) – A Satellite Event of LACA-ABCr 2025

We are excited to announce the 1st Latin American Powder Diffraction Conference (LAPDiC), which will take place on October 13-14, in Fortaleza, Brazil, as a satellite event of the LACA-ABCr 2025 Meeting.

LAPDiC is a new conference dedicated exclusively to the advancements and applications of powder diffraction techniques, covering areas such as materials science, pharmaceuticals, energy materials, catalysis, phase transitions, nanomaterials, and industrial applications. This conference will bring together researchers, students, and professionals working with X-ray, neutron, and electron powder diffraction to share knowledge, discuss emerging trends, and promote scientific exchange within the Latin American community.

In addition, LAPDiC will feature a dedicated course on the Pair Distribution Function (PDF) method, October 11-12, offering both theoretical insights and practical, hands-on training. Led by internationally recognized experts, the course is designed to equip participants with advanced skills in data analysis and structure determination, thereby enhancing the overall educational experience of the conference.

Gender, inclusivity, and diversity statement

The organizing committee for the 27th meeting of the Brazilian Crystallographic Association and the 7th meeting of the Latin American Crystallographic Association declares its commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusivity during the meeting and satellite events in agreement with the scope of the associations regarding the stimulation and furthering of structural sciences and the exchange between scientists in the region and the world.

To fulfill this commitment, we will ensure gender balance and geographical diversity in the International Scientific Committee in confidence that it will help reduce bias and carry out the following policy.

For LACA-ABCr 2025 we commit to:
  • Ensuring that a minimum of 40% of chairs in microsymposia and oral speakers are female.
  • Providing at least one oral presentation from a scientist representing each Latin American country attending the meeting.
  • Distributing bursaries for young scientists while prioritizing geographical diversity and gender equality. We will allocate these bursaries by gender among applicants only if at least 30% of the applications are submitted by women.

With these measures we hope to support the professional growth and advancement of every scientist present by making the meeting more diverse and inclusive, where ideas are exchanged with the utmost respect for each other.

Both LACA, ABCr and the organizing committee fully agree with the IUCr Gender Equity and Diversity Statement and the IUCr Gender Equity and Diversity Committee Code of Conduct.

If you are planning to attend the meeting, we urge you to read and respect them. The LACA-ABCr 2025 organizing committee reserves the right to prohibit those who contravene the code of conduct from attending the meeting.

Gender and Diversity contact person for the meeting is Prof. Maria Cristina Nonato ([email protected]), feel free to contact her if any issues that make you uncomfortable arise.
